Off Topic - Heating the DIY speaker Garage !

OK I'm in the process of hooking up some heat though (propane) which gags you with fumes.

AB, those fumes will kill you.

Un-vented natural gas/propane/kerosene heaters are NASTY. It only costs a little more money and some installation time to get a vented heater and you will never regret it.

Northern Tool and Graingers have some nice ones.

Kerosene is fine if it's burning well. I've got several. One for the garage, two for the living room and a 4th that needs work. I haven't used the one in the uninsulated garage in sub-freezing weather yet, so I'm not sure how effective it is.

I've got a CO detector that shows me the level in PPM, and I try to keep it under 15. My newest old heater doesn't even register.

Maybe you were thinking of the salamander style heaters? Mine all use wicks.

75,000BTU's....... that would do the trick! Ther Kerosene heater I have in my garage is only 26,000 BTU's.

I know that's why I haven't been too enthusiastic on going out there . But this is what I'm using at the moment. Heats up quickly and then I shut it off for awhile and then turn back on every half hour or so.Just a PIA and don't like the fumes.

If you two are interested in that heater they also sell them at Lowes and towards the end of the season they will mark them and the vent kit down to anywhere from 50-75% off. It can run with or without a thermostat.

That wont help much now but if you can snatch one for that price its really a nice unit.

another thing y'all need to consider with these open combustion heaters is what you're putting in the air while using them, i'm referring specifically to dust particles, and chemicals, their constituents and vapors.

Once upon a time when i was part of a safety team in an injection molding business, it was brought to my attention that potentially lethal compounds can be formed when various combinations of vapor and particulate are combined and heated. The focus at that time was the occupational hazards of workers who were at that time allowed to smoke at their work station, and the potential gasses and compound that were being inhaled after pulling them thru the red hot cherry.

Just something for you to consider.

In my particular case just some saw dust at the moment.I also open the doors weather permitting.The heat is really only needed when it dips below 40 degrees.So if the temps reach 50 degrees ? I don't use the heater at all.It has just got cold this past week really.
